Welcome to Whisperwind Bay, where the lake is sentient, the locals are supernatural, and love is a sacred bond between mates.

July 2nd, 2026Hey there!I am currently eleven chapters into writing The Merman Meets His Match. I am participatring in HeartBreathings Rough Draft Challenge this month and am hoping to write a further 25k on top of what I have written already. The rough draft is currently 44,158 words long. I still have several chapters to write before it is complete. (Then it needs to sit and wait a little before edits start.)I have pretty solid outlines for the next two books in the series, and concept notes for a sequel trilogy. But all of that seems like getting a bit ahead of myself. My new Threads account is now up and running, so feel free to join me there if you'd like. I also plan to have an instagram, a facebook page, and a goodreads page.Once the draft for The Merman Meets His Match is done, I plan to work oin a prequel novelette called The Merman's Midsummer Mistake. That will be told from Soren's point of view and will deal with the day he met Bree while Silas was being murdered. My goal with that is to offer it to people who sign up for my newsletter. That way you have an example of my writing in case you are wondering, "Just who is this Kathy Ann Perry and can she actually write?". Which is an entirely subjective questrion since whether I can write, for you, will be based on what your tastes in fiction are to begin with.Antyway, I'll update this when I have more to share. Have a great day!Kathy Ann

About Kathy Ann
Hi there! My name is Kathy Ann Perry and I've wanted to write books since I was twelve years old. It started with my love of the video game Final Fantasy IV and writing notebooks full of stories in its world, mutated to Power Rangers and Mortal Kombat fanfiction, spent some time with the Greek Gods--and never fully left Mt. Olympus, if I'm honest--and eventually landed on creating my own original worlds and applying the various things all that fanfic writing taught me.

I ran a book blog under my actual name--Kathy Coleman--called I Write, I Read, I Review--from fall of 2011 until sometime in 2014. I read lots of different genres, ranging from contemporary romance to dystopian, paranormal romance to fairytale retellings. It got a bit hectic since I’m not the fastest reader, but I do hope to have a book review here and there on my blog when the time permits. As for "Why now?" and "Why paranormal romance?". Now, because the idea to write a town with paranormal beings in it grabbed my interest and sounds fun. As for why Paranormal Romance? Well, I've been a fan since 2001 when I crossed four lane traffic for the first time to get my hands on Christine Feehan's Dark Magic and Dark Legend at Chapters while I was there attending Trent University. And yes, that means I read those books way outta order.
Meet My Dogs!

Maggie is our senior citizen who will be turning twelve this August. She is a schnauzer / shih tzu mix. We got her about an hour away in a place called Warkworth. Maggie likes cuddling with stuffed animals, getting kisses, chilling on my pillow, and human treats like turkey, chicken, and steak.Suzie is my impish little shih tzu / poodle mix. She will be 18 months old on June 7th. We met her breeder half way, picking her up in Madoc. Suzie splits her time 50 / 50. Sometimes she's a delicate little lady who likes to get styled at The Barkery. Sometimes she's a little imp who likes to eat bunny turds, attack ankles and chew pants. But she's my little buddy and I love her. Her favorite treats, like all our dogs, are chicken, turkey and steak.Teddy is my brother Shawn's schnauzer / shih tzu mix. He will be eight years old on Canada Day (July 1st). He is very chill and extremely food motivated. He's also a total sweety who does not know his own size, gladly cuddling up on anyone's lap no matter how sore their hips get when he's finished. Teddy likes to play with Suzie and Maggie as long as Suzie doesn't bite his ankles. He likes the same treats as the girls.
Writers Should Be Readers

Here are a few of my favorite books. Some are really old. Some are from when I ran my book blog. Some are more current. Either way, I thought it would be fun to show a few of the books that have moved me or influenced my own work.

Frquently Asked Questions
What the heck is "creepy-cute"?
Creepy-cute is the term I've come up with to describe the balance between paranormal or supernatural elements in my writing, and the equal influence of writing characters in a cozy, connected little town. I don't just want to say 'cozy', because to me cozy implies an absence of conflict since I come from a gaming background.Good and bad things happen in my books. I want my readers to laugh and cry, knowing that since they've picked up a romance they can ride this rollercoaster knowing that they will get an HEA (happy ever after) but aso knowing I'm going to make my characters work for that.
Why don't you write spice?
I have disabilities that make sex a very awkward and non-fun thing for me. When I try to write it I feel like an imposter. And when I read, I tend to skip past those parts anyway--they tend to make me bored. I don't think that's necessarily bad writing. It's moreso that I prefer the more sentimental and subtle aspects of romance, and would far rather read about a kiss, holding hands, words of endearment, etc. then ... that.I don't necessarily expect everyone to have the same physical issues I do. But I know I can't be the only one rolling my eyes at another 'insert tab A into slot B' scene. Are there authors who can write sex well? Absolutely! Sherrilyn Kenyon, Delilah S. Dawson and Susan Kearney all immediately come to mind. But as for me? It's that line from the Genie: "It's not a pretty picture. I don't like doing it.".I've mainly put this here to comfort anyone who might mistakenly think it's a matter of morals. Nope. My mom was bringing me spicy historical romances as reading material during free choice reading since I was in the 10th grade.
How did you get started as a writer?
answer
What are your top 5 Paranormal Romance books?
Night Play by Sherrilyn Kenyon -- In my opinion, the best werewolf-styled story ever written. It's about a were-hunter named Vane and a human woman named Bride. They have an unexpected encounter that results in them being marked as mates. Vane has three weeks to convince Bride that his world is real or he'll end up neutered for the rest of her mortal lifespan.Dark Tempest by Christine Feehan -- It tells the story of Darius, who acts as security for his group's band, The Dark Troubadors, and Tempest, who takes a job as their mechanic. Darius is an incredibly strong willed man who is used to being in charge. Tempest is a woman who has survived abuse and she's not about to get pushed around by a guy. They have great chemistry and both characters grow considerably over the length of the story.Bite Me If You Can by Lindsay Sands -- An ancient vampire named Lucian is set up to babysit a newly turned vampire named Leigh. Lucian basically knows squat about humans. In the beginning he tries to give her dog food, thinking that is the 'groceries' that were left for her. But each character grows immensely and Leigh becomes a total badass in her own right. Also, the book is laugh out loud funny. PNR needs more of that.Awakened by PC and Kristen Cast -- Everything I've listed is from a series, but I want to make that doubly clear here, because House of Night is the only series here that is not an interconnected standalone. Readers need to start with Marked. What makes Awakened so special is the growth of the character Rephaim, who is the love interest for Stevie Rae. If you like enemies to lovers you need to read this series for these two; they are fire. The Vampire's Mail Order Bride by Kristen Painter --
